Air Canada’s Newest Fleet

This first study is designed to inspire an apprecieation for Canada’s national carrier. It is my untimate goal to capture the entirety of this fleet - all 200+ aircraft. I have begun catelogging the new A220 aircraft; and given Air Canada has ordered 45 A220-300s, I’ll surely be occupied for the foreseeable future.

First A220: C-GROV (December, 2019)
Latest A220: C-GMYU (November, 2020)

Current fleet size: 11

C-GROV | Dec, 2019Astute viewers will note the inconsistency between this aircraft's registration and that of the other Air Canada A220s. C-"GROV" was employee-chosen to commemorate Air Canada's President, CEO, and champion of the A220 programme Calin Rovinescu, the “ROV” taken from his last name. This is a relatively rare occurance.

C-GROV | Dec, 2019

This aircraft marks Air Canada’s very first Airbus A220-300. As such, its registration, C-GROV, was employee-chosen to commemorate Air Canada's President, CEO, and champion of the A220 programme Calin Rovinescu, the “ROV” taken from his last name.

C-GJXE | Feb, 2020

The hazzy sky pictured is a direct result of the western forest fires of North America, from which prevailing winds have blown over much of the resultant pollution. Interestingly, this flight originated from Calgary, near Canada’s west coast.

C-GJXN | Feb, 2020

The A220 is expected to be as revolutionary for narrow-body aircraft as the Boeing 787 was for widebodies. Its fuel efficiency and medium-low passenger capacity make it ideal for short-medium haul routes.

C-GJXV | Mar, 2020

Putting everything together, Air Canada’s A220s are designed by Canadian company Bombardier, manufactured in a Canadian facility, in Quebec, and flown by a Canadian airline, not to mention sent primarily to dozens of Canadian cities.

C-GJXW | May, 2020

The A220 has a list price of in excess of 90 million dollars; of course, Air Canada likely received a hefty discount. Air Canada’s A220 fleet operate such notable routes as YYZ-YUL, YYZ-YEG, YYZ-YYC, YYZ-SFO, YYZ-YHZ.

C-GJXY | May, 2020

With a range of 6,100 km, Canada’s already impressive 5,500 km width is no longer an obstacle with the A220. Air Canada also cemented itself as the first North American operator of this variant, the A220-300.

C-GJYA | Jul, 2020

Originally designed by Canadian manufacturer Bombardier as the “C series”, the A220 was eventually acquired by Airbus and renamed, effectively saving the program from Bombardier’s financial issues. The A220’s unique 2-3 seat arrangement makes

C-GJYI | Oct, 2020

C-GJYI was delivered on October 6th, 2020. Its first passenger service was launched on the 7th between Montreal and Edmonton. The following day, the aircraft flew for the very first time into YYZ. This is that flight.

C-GMZN | Nov 2020

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Grow it.
